Workers' Radiation Safety Proposal Demanded from Commission for Legislative Action

On the 31st of May, 2025, the Hamburg Police will be hosting a traffic safety action called "Look Up" at the Ferry Terminal Zollenspieker in Hamburg-Kirchwerder. The event, scheduled from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, aims to address the specific dangers on the road and promote road safety for cyclists in the Vier- und Marschlande regions.

The Vier- und Marschlande regions, a scenic and popular destination for cyclists in Hamburg, have seen a concerning number of accidents in recent years. In 2024 alone, there were 26 such accidents, with severe and life-threatening injuries, as well as fatalities, being the unfortunate consequences.

The main dyke in the Vier- und Marschlande regions provides mostly clear roads and a relatively quiet riding experience, making it an attractive route for cyclists. However, the aerodynamic riding position on a racing bike and the lowered head of cyclists in the area may lead to decreased attention, potentially contributing to these accidents.

Officers from the Traffic Prevention (VD 6) and Police Station 43 will be present at the "Look Up" action day to raise awareness among cyclists. Representatives of the Hamburg Cycling Association e.V., the White Ring racing team, and the Forum for Traffic Safety Hamburg will also be present.

Media representatives are cordially invited to the event, with on-site opportunities for interviews. The press contact for the event is Nadia Papist from the Hamburg Police, who can be reached at 040/4286-56216, [email protected], and www.polizei.hamburg.

Cycling in Hamburg is trendy, and the Vier- und Marschlande regions are a popular destination for cyclists. However, it is crucial for cyclists to maintain a high level of awareness and attention while riding in these areas due to the potential for accidents. In the time period between 2020 and 2024, there were a total of 88 traffic accidents involving cyclists colliding with stationary vehicles in Hamburg.

The Hamburg Police organizes this event with the hope of reducing the number of accidents and promoting a safer environment for cyclists in the Vier- und Marschlande regions.
