Worker sustains severe injuries after scaffolding collapse in Pirna

In a sad turn of events, a craftsman has fallen from a construction scaffold in Pirna, Saxony, resulting in his death. The incident occurred on Monday, September 20, 2025, at 17:00.

According to the report, the craftsman was approximately 14 meters above the ground when he fell. He was severely injured and was flown by rescue helicopter to a clinic in Dresden, but unfortunately, he did not survive his injuries.

This incident is one of the five workplace accidents that resulted in death in Saxony in the first four months of 2025. It is a stark reminder of the dangers that exist in the workplace and the importance of safety measures.

The State Directorate responsible for investigating workplace accidents is currently looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident in Pirna. The Saxon State Ministry for Social Affairs and Social Cohesion (Sächsisches Staatsministerium für Soziales und Gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhalt) is also involved in the investigation.

Sadly, this is not the only workplace accident that has occurred recently in Saxony. On August 19, a railway worker died in a workplace accident at Horka freight yard, and a builder fell to his death in Plauen on August 16.

The incidents have led to a charity campaign in Vogtland after a fatal workplace accident on 31st July 2025. Several people were also injured after a gas leak in Neustadt in Sachsen on August 14.
