WongPartnership strengthens ASEAN legal reach with Malaysian firm alliance
Singapore-based law firm WongPartnership has expanded its regional network by adding Malaysian firm Cheang & Ariff. The move strengthens its presence in Malaysia, where it already partners with Foong & Partners. This dual-firm alliance aims to enhance expertise in corporate, financial, and dispute resolution services.
The expansion comes as Malaysia's role in ASEAN and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) drives greater cross-border investment. Recent projects, such as the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone, further highlight growing economic ties in the region. Cheang & Ariff, founded in 1986, specialises in dispute resolution, corporate law, capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, and intellectual property. The firm now joins WongPartnership's regional network, WPG, as its second Malaysian member alongside Foong & Partners.
WongPartnership itself has a long history in Asia, having established one of the first Singaporean law firm offices in China over 20 years ago. Today, it employs more than 55 lawyers, including 24 partners. Ng Wai King, the firm's chairman and senior partner, welcomed Cheang & Ariff's addition to WPG.
The WPG network already spans multiple markets, including Indonesia (Makes & Partners), the UAE (Al Aidarous Advocates and Legal Consultants), and the Philippines (Gruba Law). By integrating Cheang & Ariff, the alliance aims to combine strengths in key practice areas, reinforcing its position in ASEAN's evolving legal and business landscape. The partnership broadens WPG's capabilities in Malaysia, aligning with the country's growing economic influence in the region. With two member firms now operating in the market, the network is better positioned to support cross-border transactions and legal services. The move reflects wider trends in ASEAN's economic integration and investment opportunities.
