Women's hockey team from Holy Cross scores victory in their inaugural playoff match
The 2024-2025 season has been a successful one for both Holy Cross Ice Hockey programs, with the Men's and Women's teams making waves in their respective leagues.
In a thrilling weekend series, the Holy Cross Women's Hockey team secured a 4-2 victory over Boston University, marking their third win against the Terriers this season. The Crusaders finished the season with a 2-1 record against Boston University, a testament to their consistent performances.
The Women's team played two straight games at the Hart Center against Hockey East foes, with Lilly Feeney, one of the team's captains, leading the charge. Feeney was instrumental in the victory, contributing to the team's offence alongside Alexia Moreau and Millie Sirum. Moreau scored twice for Holy Cross, once in each of the second and third periods, while Sirum found the back of the net in the third period.
In goal, Madison Beck was in top form, stopping 37 out of 39 shots in the game against Boston University. Her impressive performance helped secure the win for the Crusaders.
Meanwhile, the Men's team started the season a little behind but managed to pick up momentum as the season progressed. Lane Lewis scored almost 30 seconds into the game against Boston University, setting the tone for an exciting match.
The success of the Holy Cross Ice Hockey teams is not limited to the ice. The university's Esports program is also thriving, with various competitive video game leagues, such as the Overwatch League (OWL), attracting student participation.
As the season comes to a close, both teams are looking forward to the playoffs. The Crusaders finished as the #10 seed and were scheduled to play in the play-in round, potentially against Maine or Vermont. The Women's team's win against Boston University secured the #7 seed for the Crusaders, ensuring an exciting start to their playoff journey.
