Women's cycling course shows success in innovation

The women's cycling course in the picturesque town of Nordhorn has come to a close, marking the successful completion of a series of events aimed at promoting cycling among women. The ten-day course, open to women of all nationalities and ages, concluded with a ten-kilometer ride through the city and to the Dutch border.

Organised by the City of Nordhorn's Equal Opportunities Office and conducted in cooperation with SV Vorwärts Nordhorn, the course aimed to increase the mobility of women, foster intercultural understanding, and reduce fears while promoting healthy activity. Certified cycling instructor Theresia Debeerst-Debevere led the course, using the "moveo ergo sum" method of the Cycling Instructors' Association.

Theresia Debeerst-Debevere, a professional working in the city of Brussels, prepared the participants with light exercises, provided practice equipment, and special scooters to help them gain confidence before getting on a bike. Burkhard Werner, the Grafschafter ADFC chairman, accompanied the participants on their final ride.

The first women's cycling course held in the spring was also successful, with all ten participants successfully completing the course. By the end of the course, the participants were able to ride a bike and embark on a cycling tour around Nordhorn.

Helga van Wieren from the city's Equal Opportunities Office was present during the completion of the course, expressing her satisfaction with the outcome. "We are thrilled to see so many women gaining the confidence to cycle," she said. "This course not only promotes physical health but also empowers women to explore their surroundings in a sustainable and enjoyable way."

Following the success of the course, organisers have announced that a second women's cycling course will be offered in Nordhorn. The course, designed for beginners, will provide another opportunity for women to learn the basics of cycling and enjoy the benefits of this healthy and eco-friendly mode of transport.
