Winter Sci-Tech Activity Cards

The Winter STEM Challenge Cards, developed by the Celebration Foundation, are an exciting and educational resource for children, teaching them a step-by-step approach to problem-solving and innovation through the Engineering Design Process.

These open-ended prompts encourage children to think, create, and experiment, with the focus on developing problem-solving skills and the engineering design process. The process includes six steps: Ask, Imagine, Plan, Create, Test, and Improve.

For preschool to Kindergarten children, the Winter STEM Challenge Cards offer a variety of activities such as building an igloo, designing a snow fort, and building a snowman. As children grow older, the challenges become more complex. Grades 1-3 activities include building a sled, designing a ski jump, building an animal den, and constructing an iceberg raft. Grades 4-5 activities are even more advanced, with children constructing a snow shovel, creating a snowflake structure, and engineering a working snowman.

The Winter STEM Challenge Cards are not only limited to the classroom. They can be used in various settings such as classroom STEM Stations, winter break projects, early finisher activities, and family fun during snowstorms. They are also available for free, including Snowflake STEM Challenge Cards, Groundhog Day STEM Cards, Valentine's Day STEM Challenge Cards, and Spring STEM Challenge Cards.

To use the Winter STEM Challenge Cards, simply print and laminate them, gather supplies, set the challenge, let kids create, and have them reflect and record their designs and outcomes. Suggested supplies include toothpicks, marshmallows, scissors, glue, tape, aluminum foil, jars, yarn or string, popsicle sticks, pipe cleaners, cotton balls, LEGO bricks, and winter-themed items.

In addition to the Winter STEM Challenge Cards, there are also other winter science activities available, such as the Crystal Snowflakes Experiment, Snowstorm in a Jar, Magic Ice Experiment (Ice Fishing), Frost on a Can, Snow Shovel STEM Challenge, and Snowball Launcher STEM Challenge.

By using the Winter STEM Challenge Cards, children not only learn valuable skills like critical thinking, perseverance, and the celebration of success, but also foster a love for STEM and innovation at a young age.
