Winning $50K Powerball ticket purchased at Arlandria convenience store
A lucky Powerball ticket sold at the Tiger Market and Bakery in Arlandria, Alexandria, has won $50,000. The shop was one of five locations across Virginia where winning tickets for the same prize were purchased on Wednesday.
To claim the cash, holders must match four white balls and the red Powerball number from the latest draw.
The winning numbers for the $50,000 prize were 23, 33, 53, 62, and 66 for the white balls, along with the red Powerball number 17. Over 87,000 Virginia Lottery tickets were bought across the state that day.
Besides the Tiger Market and Bakery, the other winning tickets came from Food Lion in Exmore, Safeway in Fairfax, Fas Mart in Glen Allen, and Smoketown Shell in Woodbridge. The owner of the Arlandria shop, Samir Raju, was later interviewed by local reporters about the big win. Powerball drawings take place three times a week—on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. The odds of winning any prize stand at one in 25, but matching all six numbers is far tougher, at one in 292,201,338. The next jackpot, set for Saturday, December 20, has already climbed to an estimated $1.5 billion.
The five $50,000 winners now have one year from the draw date to claim their prizes. Each ticket must be validated at a Virginia Lottery office or authorised retailer.
With the next Powerball jackpot reaching record heights, more players are expected to try their luck in the coming days.
