Wine Expert Chris Chan in the Recording Studio for an Interview
Christopher Chan: A Passionate Sommelier Exploring the World of Wine
Christopher Chan, an Advanced Sommelier, has built a distinguished career in the world of wine. His love for French food, French girls, and French wine was kindled during his first trip to Burgundy at the age of eighteen, setting him on a path to become a leading figure in the industry.
Based in Seattle, Chan has held the prestigious role of Director of Wine and Spirits at the exclusive Rainier Club. He is also the co-owner of Coral Wines and the creator and host of the Seattle Wine Awards, an event that showcases the best wines from around the globe.
In 2010 or 2011, Chan launched Seattle's Happy Hour Radio, a platform that brings together industry experts to discuss all things wine. The first episode featured Emile Ninaud, Brian Carter, and Charles Finkel, notable figures in the Seattle wine scene. Ninaud was the first wine shop owner in Seattle, while Finkel was the first agent for Chateau Ste. Michelle.
Chan's passion for wine has led him to travel extensively, visiting wine regions in France, Portugal, Spain, and beyond. Burgundy, France, the mecca for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, according to Chan, has been a particular favourite. However, he plans to broaden his horizons by visiting wine regions in the Wachau and Saarstein areas, known for their Riesling and Spätburgunder wines.
Portugal was a standout in Chan's recent travels, and he highly recommends it for those seeking a unique wine experience. This enthusiasm for Portuguese wine will be reflected in the Seattle Wine Awards' Holiday Wine Fest, which will feature international wines from France, Spain, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, and Argentina.
The Seattle Wine Awards' Holiday Wine Fest will take place on November 12th and 13th at the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall. Aspiring wine enthusiasts should note Chan's advice for those starting to travel for a wine education: learn a little of the local language and research their destination.
In his pursuit of further knowledge, Chan is planning to work toward the Master Sommelier Exam in 2017. With his dedication and passion, there is no doubt that Chan will continue to make significant contributions to the world of wine.
