Wine enthusiasts, mark your calendars! The Mountain Vineyard Festival commences this Saturday.

The 87th Bergstraße Wine Festival, a much-anticipated event, is set to take place in Bensheim from Saturday, August 28, until September 14.

At the heart of the festivities is the traditional parade, which starts at 2 pm, and follows a route through Carl-Orff-Straße, Darmstädter Straße, Rodensteinstraße, Promenaden- and Bahnhofstraße, Neckarstraße, and back to Rodensteinstraße. The parade's motto, "Bergstraße wine and sociable people - together we celebrate our winemakers' festival", encapsulates the spirit of unity and celebration that the event embodies.

The festival officially opens at 6 pm on the market square with a ceremony involving salutes and a marching band, presided over by Mayor Christine Klein. This year, Chiara Fischer from Groß-Umstadt was crowned as the new wine queen of Bensheim on Saturday evening, July 8, and she will pass her crown to the new queen during the festival.

Numerous wine stalls can be found at the festival, offering a variety of local wines for tasting and purchase. In addition, around 50 food stalls will be present, providing a delicious array of culinary delights for visitors to enjoy.

For those looking for entertainment, there are approximately 25 rides and sales stands on the festival grounds, ensuring there's something for everyone. The live music performances that take place every evening are still happening, providing a lively soundtrack to the festivities.

For those planning to attend the festival but are concerned about transportation, the "Night Owl" bus service will be operating during the event. This service serves Bensheim's districts, Heppenheim, Alsbach, Lindenfels, and surrounding villages, with fares based on regular bus fares. The "Night Owl" bus service will ensure that festival-goers can travel safely and conveniently to and from the event.
