In the heart of central and western New York, the Wilmot Cancer Institute is making strides in the fight against cancer. The institute, which has been a beacon of hope for community members, recently showcased its unique contributions in the first edition of Dialogue magazine, produced specifically to highlight the institute's accomplishments.

At the helm of the Wilmot Cancer Institute is Jonathan Friedberg, M.D., M.M.Sc, who is proud of the institute's team and their achievements. One of the key contributors to these successes is Eric Snyder, a data guru who joined the institute during a transformative period. Snyder has uncovered some sobering facts about cancer incidence and challenges in the 27-county area served by the institute, but his work is instrumental in understanding and addressing these issues.

The first edition of Dialogue magazine features a profile of Eric Snyder on page 8, as well as a group of University of Rochester (UR) medical students from underserved communities who participated in an inaugural internship program at the Wilmot Cancer Institute. Their profiles can be found on page 10.

The institute's expansion plans are also underway. Dan Mulkerin, M.D., has been recruited as the Regional Oncology Director to oversee the project in Rochester. A profile of Dr. Mulkerin can be found on page 13. Additionally, a new facility in Webster is opening this spring as part of the Wilmot Cancer Institute's mission. The Regional Oncology Director at the Wilmot Cancer Institute in Rochester, who opened the new center in Webster, is Dr. Jonathon S. Beri.

The Wilmot Cancer Institute is aiming for designation as a top cancer center in the U.S., which would place it among 71 elite centers if successful. This designation would not only elevate the institute's standing in the field of cancer research but also provide a special research grant for the Wilmot Cancer Institute.

According to Jonathan Friedberg, significant improvements have been made at the Wilmot Cancer Institute over the past five years. The NCI designation is a prestigious honor in the field of cancer research, and the institute's pursuit of this accolade is a testament to its commitment to excellence and its dedication to the community it serves. The Wilmot Cancer Institute is producing Dialogue magazine to showcase its uniqueness and highlight its contributions to the fight against cancer.
