Will Caesars Entertainment Face a 2026 Takeover? Traders Bet Big
Traders on the prediction market Kalshi are betting heavily on a Caesars Entertainment takeover this year. The platform's event contract, asking whether the casino giant will be acquired in 2026, has seen prices swing sharply in recent days. Reports of a potential bid from billionaire Tilman Fertitta initially drove confidence, but scepticism has since grown following official denials and market shifts.
Kalshi launched its 'Will Caesars be acquired this year?' contract earlier this month. The derivative settles at 'yes' if a binding deal is announced before January 1, 2027, regardless of which buyer secures it. Since going live, the contract has drawn nearly $11,000 in trading volume, reflecting modest but notable interest.
Prices for the 'yes' outcome spiked to 91 cents on March 13 after reports claimed Fertitta had tabled a $34-per-share offer, outbidding Carl Icahn's rumoured $33 bid. Neither party has confirmed their involvement, though sources suggest Caesars and Fertitta may now be in a 45-day exclusive negotiation period. Icahn, meanwhile, appears to be adopting a cautious 'wait-and-see' approach. The optimism proved short-lived. By March 20, the 'yes' contract had fallen from 65 cents to 42 cents, a drop triggered by Caesars' March 15 denial of active takeover discussions. Regulatory delays and broader volatility in gaming stocks have further dampened trader confidence. A deal would not be unprecedented for Caesars, which has undergone four takeovers since 1999. The most recent came in 2020, when Eldorado Resorts completed its acquisition of the company. Kalshi's contract does not require the transaction to close—only that a definitive, public agreement is reached.
The prediction market now reflects waning certainty over a 2026 acquisition, with the 'yes' probability hovering around 42%. Caesars' denial and regulatory hurdles have cooled speculation, though Fertitta's reported offer keeps the possibility alive. The outcome hinges on whether a formal announcement emerges before the year's end.
