In the agricultural heart of Argentina, President Martรญn Biscaisaque of Argentrigo has addressed the current situation of the wheat harvest. The discussion took place in Argentina, the country where Argentine wheat is predominantly cultivated.

Despite efforts towards self-sufficiency, Brazil remains the main destination for Argentine wheat. This preference is not only due to the quality of Argentine wheat, which is highly regarded for both baking and its sanitary condition, but also because of the fewer risks of mycotoxins compared to wheat produced in neighboring countries.

President Biscaisaque acknowledged that the wheat equation is not easy at present. However, he emphasised that producers have access to sufficient tools to combat diseases. These tools include fungicides, advanced technology, and extensive knowledge. The decision to use these tools remains with the producer.

The estimated area for wheat planting in Argentina this year is between 6.7 and 6.8 million hectares, representing an increase of 400,000 hectares compared to the previous campaign. This increase is attributed to a combination of factors, including the extension of reduced retentions, good soil moisture, and an attractive input-output ratio.

Wheat production in Argentina is doing well, with only some sectors affected by excess water. However, the international scenario for wheat is showing complications due to rising prices of fertilizers, especially urea, in a context of depressed grain values.

President Biscaisaque's evaluation comes from his role as the head of Chacra Agro Continental, a significant player in the Argentine agricultural sector. Despite these challenges, the future of Argentine wheat production looks promising, with producers equipped to navigate the complexities of the global market.
