S04's sporting director, Marc Wilmots, addressed the rumors about their coach's future after the win against Osnabrück. He said:
"I chatted with Karel for two hours yesterday. He's in love with Schalke, he wants to stay!"
Wilmots also added in the post-match press conference:
"There are always some surprises in soccer, but it's clear to me that Karel is sticking around. I don't see a reason for him to leave. He's doing a fine job. Plus, he's committed to the team. Same goes for me - I don't feel like he wants to go."
With the win against Osnabrück, Schalke are sitting comfortably in eleventh place with 40 points, two matchdays before the season ends. They have eight points on Wiesbaden in sixteenth place and nine points on their next opponents from Rostock.
Rostock, ranked second-to-last (31 points), are in a dire situation. They're one point behind Wiesbaden (32) and four points away from the safety zone and Braunschweig (35). If Rostock wins at Schalke, they'll have a chance for an exciting final showdown. But: Braunschweig is facing Wiesbaden on Sunday (1.30 pm).
To avoid relegation, Rostock defender Damian Roßbach (31) knows what needs to be done:
"We need to score two wins now. It doesn't matter how we do it."
