On tonight's ARD broadcast, scheduled for August 18, 2025, at 8:15 PM, the Focus program will air a special report on the recent meeting between US President Trump and Ukrainian President Selenskyj. The meeting, which took place in Washington, was a follow-up to the Alaska Summit held over the weekend.

The Focus program, hosted by Ellen Ehni, will delve into the details of the discussions, with a focus on security guarantees for Ukraine. According to a government spokesman, these were the main points of conversation during the meeting.

Besides Trump and Selenskyj, the meeting was attended by European leaders including German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte. Also present were French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who joined the multilateral meeting at the White House to discuss security guarantees, territorial issues, and continued support for Ukraine in defense against Russian aggression.

The meeting between the leaders is significant as it comes amidst ongoing tensions between Ukraine and Russia. The German government, however, is not hopeful for quick progress towards a peace agreement for Ukraine.

Following the Focus program, at 11:15 PM, there will be a subsequent broadcast titled "special tagesthemen" that will provide further analysis and context on the meeting's outcomes.

Tonight's ARD broadcast schedule has been adjusted due to these recent events, with the Focus program airing for 10 minutes, from 8:15 PM to 8:25 PM, and the "special tagesthemen" broadcast scheduled for 11:15 PM.

Stay tuned to ARD for comprehensive coverage of this important meeting and its implications for Ukraine's future.
