Western Mustangs Dominate Home Opener Against Guelph Gryphons

The Western Mustangs kicked off their season in style, defeating the Guelph Gryphons with a thrilling score of 53-33 at Alumni Stadium.

The Mustangs' offense was on fire, scoring an impressive seven touchdowns in the game. Quarterback Evan Hillock threw for 242 yards and two touchdowns, while Jerome Rancourt and Ethan Dolby each rushed for a pair of touchdowns.

Dolby also contributed 100 yards rushing in the game, while Raeshawn Blake scored his first OUA touchdown. The highlight of the game came in the second quarter, when Seth Robertson caught a 43-yard touchdown pass after a blocked punt by Brayden Misseri, giving the Mustangs a 10-3 lead.

Coach Greg Marshall was pleased with the win, but acknowledged that there is still room for improvement. "There was good stuff to see on film, it was a win," he said. However, he also mentioned that Western's coverage was not good and put their defense in bad spots.

The victory improves Western's record to 2-0, and they will look to continue their winning streak when they host Ottawa on September 6.

In other news, Jack Kelly also scored his first OUA touchdown in the game, and the Mustangs' defense continued to impress, forcing turnovers and making key plays throughout the contest.
