Weekly Schedule for the Outdoor Activities Commencing September 7

Get ready for an exciting month in Lancaster County as several outdoor activities are scheduled for September. From trap shooting to hiking, there's something for everyone.

Trap Shooting

For those interested in trap shooting, Conewago Rod & Gun Club is hosting weekly public shoots from 9 a.m. to noon every Saturday, starting on September 13th. The same club also offers shoots on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., starting on September 10th and 24th respectively.

Paradise Sportsman's Association and Southern Lancaster County Farmer-Sportsmen's Association also welcome the public for trap shooting. Paradise offers shoots on the second Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., starting on September 13th. Southern Lancaster County Farmer-Sportsmen's Association hosts shoots every Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., starting on September 9th and 23rd.

Manheim Sportsmen's Association offers public trap shooting practice at various times, including 10 a.m. on Saturdays, 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, and 5:30 p.m. on September 10th and 24th.

Archery

Indoor archery enthusiasts can head to Southern Lancaster County Farmer-Sportsmen's Association clubhouse every Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., starting on September 9th and 23rd.

Hiking

The Lancaster Hiking Club has several hikes planned for September. On September 7th, a moderate 4.5-mile hike at Lancaster County Central Park will be led, followed by the group's annual members' picnic. On September 14th, an Ironville Park Raptor Watch will take place, led by Carl Groff. A free fitness hike of 5 miles at the Pequea Valley Trolley Line will be led on September 14th, and a free fitness hike of 5 to 6 miles at the Environmental Center will be held on September 7th.

For more adventurous hikers, a strenuous, rocky hike of 12.5 miles at Peter's Mountain on the Appalachian Trail is planned for September 28th.

Meetings and Events

The monthly meeting of Manheim Sportsmen's Association will be held at 7 p.m. on September 18th, with new members always welcome. The monthly club meeting of the Lancaster County Bird Club will be held on September 16th, featuring Rachel Pennell discussing "Talkin' Turkey: Wild Turkey Projects in Pennsylvania."

Quittapahilla Audubon Society will present "The Astonishing Dawn Redwood" at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on September 24th.

The Sierra Club - Lancaster Group is seeking volunteers for its annual Polar Bear 5K Trail Run/Hike, set for January 10, 2026, in Lancaster County Central Park. Volunteers are needed for various tasks such as marketing, advertising and promotion, logistics and parking, prizes, food and beverages, registration communications, and volunteer coordination.

The planning committee of the Lancaster Group meets the second Thursday of each month (September through December) at 6:30 p.m. in the food court area of Wegmans, Lancaster.

The Pumping Station Road Field Trip will be held on September 21st, led by Carl Groff, and The Noel Dorwart Park Field Trip will be held on September 27th, led by John Lahr. Both trips are organised by the Lancaster County Bird Club.
