Anticipated gridlock in the northern regions approaching the end of holiday season, as per ADAC's prediction. - Weekend holiday travel in the north anticipated to cause traffic congestion, according to ADAC forecasts
With the summer holidays coming to an end this weekend in four federal states, including Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the Automobile Club of Germany (ADAC) has issued a traffic advisory for the region.
According to the ADAC, heavy traffic is expected on several highways and popular routes in both states. In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, coastal roads and transitions, especially on the bridge to and from Usedom, are expected to be particularly congested. The A20 and A24 are the highways where the heaviest traffic is anticipated, especially during the weekend.
The ADAC has not mentioned any heavy traffic on the Elbe bridges, Elbtunnel, or Horster Triangle in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. However, they expect delays at the Horster Triangle, in the Elbtunnel, and on the Elbe bridges in the Greater Hamburg area.
In addition, the A1 around Hamburg is expected to be congested due to the end of vacation traffic. The ADAC has announced full closures on both highways near Hamburg (A24 from September 12-15 and A1 from September 19-22), which may cause additional delays.
In Schleswig-Holstein, expect heavy traffic on the highways A1, A7, A21, and A23. The ADAC recommends travelling at off-peak hours or as early or late as possible on popular routes in both states to avoid potential congestion.
It's important to note that maintenance work is currently underway on the Norderelb bridge, causing traffic to be reduced to 60 km/h in this area. The ADAC has not mentioned any maintenance work causing reduced speed limits in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
Schwerin, a location in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, may experience heavy traffic during the weekend. On Friday afternoon and Saturday, expect full roads on the A20 and A24 in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
Overall, with a lot of traffic expected on Friday afternoon, Saturday morning, and Sunday afternoon, it's advisable to plan your journeys accordingly and allow extra time for travel. Stay safe on the roads this weekend!
