Weekend Highlights: A Blend of Heavy Tunes, Schlager, and Street Artistry

Get ready for an unforgettable cultural extravaganza in Latvia this June, as two unique festivals are set to take place in the picturesque towns of Saldus and Bauska.

First on the calendar is the annual "Saldus Schlager Marathon" music festival, which will mark its 12th year at Saldus Kalnsētas Park. This year's event, organised by the Saldus Municipality or the local cultural centre in Saldus, promises to be a celebration of music and culture, featuring an array of local and international metal and rock artists.

Archgoat from Finland, Isole from Sweden, Avulsed from Spain, Khors from Ukraine, and many more will take to the stage at Zobens un Lemess, the main event of the "Saldus Schlager Marathon". In addition, Latvian acts such as Apvedceļš̌, Zvaigžņu lietus, Galaktika, Jānis Moisejs, Dobeles Zemessargi, and others will perform, ensuring a diverse and entertaining line-up.

The festival will not only be about music, though. Fire rituals, throat-singing contests, lectures, bagpipe competitions, and other activities will add to the festive atmosphere.

Meanwhile, over in Bauska, the annual open-air heavy music and living history festival Zobens un Lemess will take place at the Bauska Hillfort from June 6 to 8. This festival will also feature a demonstration by the Latvian Special Forces, promising a thrilling and educational experience.

In the heart of Riga, the Baltic Clash street art festival will take place at the Āgenskalns market yard on June 8. This event will see Tautumeitas and Brīvrunu projekts participating in a word battle, adding a touch of competitive spirit to the festival.

Entrance details for both festivals have yet to be announced. Keep an eye on local news for updates and get ready to immerse yourself in the rich cultural offerings of Latvia this June!
