Week 20 Construction Sites from the Year 2023

In the heart of Heidelberg, several significant renovation projects are underway, set to transform key areas of the city. Here's a rundown of what you need to know.

Starting with the Schiller Staircase, the iconic pathway between Eastern Karl-Friedrich Street and Linden Street will undergo renovation from May 15, 2023, to mid-September 2023. During this period, the staircase will be closed for construction, but the kindergarten main entrance at Linden Street 26 will remain accessible. Of note, the renovated Schiller Staircase will feature eleven steps instead of seven, a stroller ramp made of stainless steel, and will be connected to the pedestrian crossings above and below with blind guide plates and anti-slip strips.

Moving on to Holzgartenstraße, construction sites have been set up at house numbers 7 to 9 and 33 to 35 since May 10, 2023. Through traffic will no longer be possible in "Hinter der Birk" Street, and access from Holzgartenstraße to Kreuzstraße will also be unavailable during the project. Access for residents will be guaranteed from both sides up to the construction site, and parking spaces in the above-mentioned areas of Holzgartenstraße will be removed. The main work will take place at property number 4 in "Hinter der Birk" Street, and the construction project in Holzgartenstraße is scheduled to end in early June 2023.

Another significant project is the renovation of the Herrenstrietsteg Bridge, which will take place from May 12, 2023, to the end of September 2023. During this time, the Herrenstrietsteg Bridge, the Herrenstrietweg in front of the bridge, and the unpaved parking area next to the bridge will be closed.

Essential maintenance work on the sewage network will also be carried out in "Hinter der Birk" Street in Brotzingen from May 15. Pedestrian traffic can be maintained in "Hinter der Birk" Street, and the work in this area is expected to take approximately two weeks in total.

Lastly, a temporary bus stop will be set up approximately 50 meters away from its current location during the construction period. The area in front of the bus stop on Eastern Karl-Friedrich Street will be reserved for construction materials and closed during the project.

The city of Heidelberg will carry out all these renovation projects, with the completion dates scheduled for the end of 2024 for the Schiller Staircase and Herrenstrietsteg Bridge, and mid-2025 for the work on Holzgartenstraße. It's an exciting time for Heidelberg, as these projects are set to enhance the city's infrastructure and beauty. Stay informed for updates on these transformative renovations.
