Waterfront Expansion: Suicardusstraße is being extended further
Suicardus Street is set to undergo a significant transformation as the city's urban development department plans an expansion from Suicardus Street South to Dalberg Street, with construction commencing on August 18, 2025.
The renovation includes not only the expansion but also the renewal of existing utility lines and the implementation of a new lighting concept. To accommodate these changes, a full closure of Suicardus Street in the mentioned section is necessary. The road surface will be repaired during the construction, ensuring a smoother ride for motorists and pedestrians once the work is complete.
The construction work will be under the supervision of archaeologists and explosive ordnance technical experts to ensure safety and historical preservation. These supervisions may cause delays in the construction schedule, but the project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.
During the construction, the playground below Suicardus Street will be closed, but fear not, additional parking spaces will be created for residents, market vendors, and visitors. The Oberer Hofweg will also be affected, but a newly built elevator at the Schlosstreppe will serve as an alternative route.
An electric bollard system will be installed at the entrance from Dalberg Street, adding a modern touch to the renovated street. The construction work may impact the Oberer Hofweg, but the city is taking steps to minimise disruption. A redesign of the Schlossufer is also planned as the next phase, following the completion of the Suicardus Street expansion.
This extensive project aims to improve the infrastructure and aesthetics of the area, making it a more enjoyable and convenient place for all who visit or live there. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting development!
