Water technology improvement in Guardamar del Segura: Modernizing the city's water supply system.
Guardamar del Segura Introduces Smart Water Management System
In an effort to enhance water management efficiency and reinforce its image as a forward-looking and sustainable destination, the town of Guardamar del Segura in Spain is implementing a new smart water management system. This project, costing €232,590 and approved by the Town Council, is part of Spain's Tourist Sustainability Plans.
The smart water management system is set to bring about significant changes in the way water is managed in the town. Real-time water consumption monitoring will be possible, allowing for immediate detection of leaks, irregularities, and possible fraud in water consumption.
The system will be installed in more than 600 second homes in residential areas, including Pinomar, Campomar, Pórtico Mediterráneo, and Moncayo. In addition, 637 new meters equipped with radio modules will be fitted in 22 tourist establishments across the town.
To ensure full coverage across the town, 12 concentrator antennas will be installed at municipal facilities, water tanks, and pumping stations. These antennas will transmit data from the meters to a central server, enabling users to access detailed consumption data via a dedicated web and mobile application.
The application will provide alerts for excessive water use and personalized notifications, promoting water conservation among residents and tourists. The project's leader, José Manuel García, is confident that the smart water management system will contribute to Guardamar del Segura's broader commitment to smart city innovation.
The installation of the new meters is expected to be completed within six months, marking a significant step towards making Guardamar del Segura a more efficient and sustainable destination.
