Water jetting high into the air as man leaps over hydrants
In the heart of Stuttgart city centre, an unexpected spectacle unfolded last Friday evening. An unknown man, described as an 18- to 25-year-old, approximately 1.80 to 1.85 meters tall, caused a water fountain to erupt from a damaged water hydrant at the corner of Münz- and Sporerstraße.
The incident, which occurred around 7 pm, started when the suspect made several "bunny hops" over the hydrant, loosening it from its anchorage. He then kicked the hydrant several times, causing it to completely detach. A several-meter-high fountain resulted from the action.
The water, which flowed for about an hour, caused damage estimated to be around 5,000 euros. Thousands of liters of water flowed into the state library and an underground garage, causing minor flooding.
Firefighters were called to the scene to manage the water flow, while the police were on hand to investigate the incident. The police station's contact number is 0711/89903100, and tips about the suspect can be given to the police station 1 in Theodor-Heuss-Straße.
It's important to note that the cause of the leak was a defective water pipe, not the actions of the suspect in the current incident. The Fitz-Faller fountain, which was recently put back into operation in July, had leaked earlier, but this was unrelated to the hydrant incident.
The damage caused by this incident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible behaviour in public spaces. If you witness any suspicious activities, please do not hesitate to contact the local authorities.
