Waste water fees in New Isenburg to rise, starting from 2025
In a series of decisions aimed at improving and maintaining the city's wastewater infrastructure, the districts of Neu-Isenburg, Gravenbruch, and Zeppelinheim have announced plans to increase fees for sewage and stormwater services. This initiative, known as "Projekt Gravenbruch 2029," is set to invest a total of 28 million euros by 2029.
The most notable change will be an increase in the stormwater canal fee, rising from 8.11 euros to 8.72 euros per 10 square meters of sealed area. For a family of four with specific water consumption and plot size, this change will result in additional annual costs of 181.30 euros, or approximately 15.11 euros per month.
Neu-Isenburg, unlike many other municipalities, drains stormwater and sewage in separate channels, a decision that significantly contributes to environmental protection, despite causing higher costs. The separate systems in Neu-Isenburg and Gravenbruch consist of a total of 184 kilometers of channels, with 78.5 kilometers specifically for stormwater. In contrast, Zeppelinheim uses a combined system for sewage and stormwater.
The city council of Neu-Isenburg explains that the increase in fees is necessary due to increased costs and extensive investments in wastewater infrastructure. The annual costs for wastewater transport and treatment in Neu-Isenburg have risen from 1.818 million euros to 2.646 million euros. New legal requirements, such as the thermal utilization of sewage sludge, require additional investments in Neu-Isenburg.
First Mayor Stefan Schmitt and Petra Klink, Managing Director of DLB Dreieich and Neu-Isenburg AoR, emphasize the need for these investments to ensure the quality and safety of wastewater treatment and meet ecological, sustainable requirements. The city council will decide on the 6th amendment to the drainage ordinance on December 11.
The most significant investment under "Projekt Gravenbruch 2029" is the construction of a stormwater pumping station in Gravenbruch, which will be completed at a cost of 8.6 million euros. The project also includes the expansion of sewage lift stations and stormwater overflow basins, with an investment of 1.8 million euros.
Despite these increases, Neu-Isenburg remains in the middle range compared to other municipalities in the Offenbach district in terms of household costs. The city council assures residents that the investments will secure the city's wastewater infrastructure, ensuring a cleaner and safer environment for all.
The ongoing challenges posed by events such as the Corona pandemic and the Ukraine war have led to rising construction costs and delays in Neu-Isenburg. However, the city remains committed to moving forward with "Projekt Gravenbruch 2029" to secure a sustainable future for its wastewater infrastructure.
