Vuskovic faces doping charges in HSV trial.

At 8:35 am, previously banned HSV pro Vuskovic leaves a taxi with his mother Sanja and two lawyers, all without jackets but in white shirts. Despite doping penalties, the Croatian athlete appears determined and physically fit, gearing up for a career defense at the Palais de Beauvais.

Talks are underway! - Vuskovic faces doping charges in HSV trial.

As Mario Vuskovic (age 22) approaches the International Court of Arbitration for Sport "CAS" in Lausanne, Switzerland, the sun rises and shines in his face.

Intriguingly, when his attorney Tomislav Kasalo presses the doorbell at the main entrance, it takes two attempts before the door opener responds.

The Vuskovic trial: everything comes to a head today and tomorrow! The Croatian defense lawyer hopes for a not-guilty verdict in the case. On the other hand, the national and international anti-doping agencies NADA and WADA are pushing for an extension of Vuskovic's two-year ban to four years, alleging that he was involved in prohibited EPO doping.

Several taxis come and go in Lausanne prior to the commencement of the hearing. HSV, not a party to the proceedings, is represented by sports director Jonas Boldt (age 42) and HSV legal counsel Philipp Winter. Vuskovic's lawyers, Greene, Kasalo, and Rain, are also present.

The representatives from NADA and WADA include the German laboratory head Sven Voss and EPO experts Naud (Canada), Reichel (Austria), and Dehnes (Norway). Canadian expert David Chen, hired by the Vuskovic side, and consultant Damir Smoljan are also on-site early.

Finally, the chairman of the proceedings, Hilliger (Denmark), and arbitrators Benz (England) and Fumagalli (Italy) make their way to the hearing room on the third floor.

Following the welcome and opening statements, a scientific marathon of intense questioning of the doping experts is anticipated.

What's worth noting is that those attending the trial have a stunning view of Lake Geneva from the room, although that may not be the main focus during the proceedings.

Chairman Lars Hilliger (2nd from right) is now at the center of the proceedings.
