In a groundbreaking move, Dürr has launched a state-of-the-art paint shop at Volkswagen Group's production site in Puebla, Mexico. The paint shop, executed by Eisenmann in 2022, is a testament to Dürr's commitment to innovation and sustainability.

The new facility incorporates advanced electrified technology, including an electric drying system, the EcoInCure, which is connected to the Oxi.X.RV system. This system treats polluted exhaust air through regenerative thermal oxidation (RTO) without the need for an open flame, significantly reducing CO2 emissions. By powering the ovens with renewable energy sources such as green electricity, the paint shop's CO2 emissions can be reduced by approximately 40% compared to those leveraging natural gas.

The painting lines are equipped with the latest application technology to handle a variety of Volkswagen models. The central high-bay warehouse and the EcoProFleet, an automated guided vehicle system developed by Dürr, facilitate the integration of new models and upcoming technologies. The paint shop features two identical painting lines, each with 170 robots dedicated to sealing and painting.

The EcoDryScrubber, an energy-efficient and eco-friendly overspray separation system, is another key feature of the new paint shop. This system uses limestone powder to capture paint overspray, and the air is then purified by high-efficiency HEPA12 filters.

Bruno Welsch, Dürr Automotive COO, stated that one reason Volkswagen opted for the EcoInCure electric drying system is its special air duct system that heats the bodies from the inside out, resulting in more uniform heating and cooling behavior. This innovation cuts the body heating times by 30 percent.

The project integrates Dürr's "Paint Shop of the Future" concept, which includes the central high-bay warehouse and autonomous transportation systems. This technology results in a more efficient and sustainable paint shop, aligning with Volkswagen's commitment to reducing its environmental footprint.
