Vodacom transforms Western Cape with tech-driven education and relief efforts

Vodacom South Africa is using technology and targeted investments to drive positive change in the Western Cape. Through partnerships and digital initiatives, the company has expanded education, disaster relief, and skills development across the province this financial year. The company's collaboration with the Vodacom Foundation has already benefited 1,200 schools and Early Childhood Development centres in the region. Four Schools of Excellence and four Early Childhood Development centres now operate with improved resources. Diazville High School, for example, received a Virtual Classroom solution alongside a Coding and Robotics programme.

Beyond education, Vodacom has supported healthcare through its partnership with the Smile Foundation. During Smile Week at Tygerberg Hospital, 13 children underwent life-changing surgeries. The company also donated R1.1 million in disaster relief funding for the 2024/25 financial year. Digital skills training remains a key focus. Over 170 young people from underprivileged backgrounds have graduated from Vodacom's Youth Academy, gaining computer skills and work experience. Additionally, 40 female farmers received ICT training, while 55 survivors of gender-based violence were equipped with digital skills since 2017. Network improvements have also been prioritised. A R450 million investment this financial year aims to boost network quality, capacity, and coverage across the Western Cape.

Vodacom's efforts in the Western Cape include expanded education access, healthcare support, and infrastructure upgrades. The investments in technology and skills development are designed to create long-term opportunities for communities in the region.
