Virginia casino pays out record $1M from a 25-cent horse racing bet

A casino visitor has broken the record for the largest payout in historical horse racing (HHR) history. The win, totaling over $1 million, took place at The Rose Gaming Resort in Dumfries, Virginia, on January 22. This smashes the previous record of $914,000, which was set in 2021.

The lucky player placed a modest 25-cent bet on the Straight Cash HHR machine. The massive payout marks a new milestone for HHR terminals, which use archived data from real horse races and operate legally in several U.S. states. The Rose Gaming Resort, part of Rosie's Gaming Emporium, has seen other big wins recently, including $176,883 on Ultimate Fire Link, $151,961 on Lion Link, $33,380 on The Enforcer, and $22,452 on Miner's Dream Blue Mountain.

Meanwhile, Santa Anita Park in California has faced controversy after installing Racing on Demand terminals. Regulators have intervened, but the park's management disputes the decision. They plan to challenge the ruling in court.

The $1 million win stands as the highest HHR payout ever recorded. The event highlights the growing popularity of these terminals, which continue to generate significant prizes. In California, the legal dispute over Racing on Demand terminals remains unresolved.
