Virgin Voyages' Brilliant Lady redefines cruising with bold style and tattoo parlours

Virgin Voyages' newest ship, the Brilliant Lady, is making waves with its unconventional approach to cruising. The mood was festive ahead of its nearly sold-out 'MerMaiden' voyage from New York City to Bermuda this September. Unlike typical cruise crowds, the passengers—called 'sailors'—range from young adults to older travellers, all drawn to the ship's bold style.

The Brilliant Lady stands out for its edgy features, including the first tattoo parlour at sea. It avoids traditional cruise elements like buffets, opting instead for sit-down restaurants. The ship is the fourth in Virgin's fleet, joining the Scarlet Lady (launched in 2021), Valiant Lady, and Resilient Lady, with another vessel planned for 2025.

The 'MerMaiden' voyage drew extra attention when Sir Richard Branson, Virgin's founder, boarded the ship. That same morning, he married someone in an onboard ceremony. CEO Nirmal Saverimuttu emphasised the line's inclusive appeal, noting that sailors of all ages feel at home on Virgin Voyages.

The Brilliant Lady continues to redefine cruising with its modern, non-traditional approach. Its mix of unique amenities and diverse passenger base sets it apart from older cruise models. The ship's upcoming voyages are expected to attract even more travellers seeking something different at sea.
