Vietnam takes over the chairmanship role in the ASEAN Committee based in Washington, D.C.

The ASEAN Committee in Washington D.C. (ACW) has undergone a change in leadership, with Vietnam taking over from Thailand. The handover ceremony took place on August 29 in the heart of the American capital, Washington D.C.

Vietnam's Ambassador to the US, Nguyễn Quốc Dũng, spoke at the event, expressing his intention to foster more substantive engagement with partners. He also praised Thailand for its successful tenure, particularly in the commemoration of ASEAN Day on August 8.

The symbolic transfer of the ACW gavel and the ASEAN flag marked the official start of Vietnam's four-month leadership. Việt Nam has prepared several specific initiatives for the ACW and will share details in due course.

Following the ceremony, a networking session with representatives of ASEAN embassies and local partners was held. This event provided an opportunity for discussions and collaboration on the upcoming joint ASEAN activities aimed at strengthening cooperation and understanding with the USA.

In the coming months, Vietnam will lead several activities, including joint cultural promotion activities in December, showcasing all ASEAN member states in Washington. October will mark Timor-Leste's admission to ASEAN and a co-hosted program on artificial intelligence.

Additionally, a meeting with the Secretary of the US Department of Transportation and Acting NASA Administrator Sean Duffy is scheduled for November. September will see National Day celebrations of Singapore, Malaysia, and Việt Nam, as well as a series of activities at the United Nations General Assembly.

Two new ambassadors from Laos and Indonesia will be welcomed in September. Nguyễn Quốc Dũng affirmed that Việt Nam will work to maintain the momentum of the ACW's activities in the coming months.

The ACW serves as a platform that fosters cooperation between ASEAN and the US. In the remaining months of the year, the ACW will organize various activities aimed at strengthening cooperation and mutual understanding between ASEAN and the US.
