The Vietnamese gaming industry is poised to rake in a staggering $2.42 billion by 2029, according to a powerhouse strategy drafted from 2025-2030. Picture this: VN's gaming sector, rapidly expanding at a 9.77% compound annual growth rate, is rocketing VN's digital economy towards the stars.

What's behind this explosive growth? Well, drop everything and take a peek at VN's digital landscape. With a whip-smart, digitally savvy population, this market is prime ground for both homegrown and international game VN-ers. To illustrate the gravity of the situation, the number of online games developed and launched annually is skyrocketing, demonstrateing the insatiable appetite for digital entertainment.

In recent years, Vietnam has evolved from a playground for online games to a significant hub for development and outsourcing. Homegrown hits like Free Fire, Caravan War, Metal Squad, and Arena of Survivors have captured the world's attention. This dramatic shift showcases the escalating expertise of local developers in both content creation and game production.

So, what's the secret sauce? Online gaming officially entered the big leagues in VN as a sub-sector of the digital content industry. Packed with intellectual property value, the industry punches far above its weight, contributing significantly to the economy by generating revenue, creating employement for IT professionals, and boosting exports of digital products.

In a report released by the Ministry of Information and Communications, VN's strong stance in the global mobile gaming sector is projected to remain unshaken, with eye-popping growth from 2022 to 2025 at 7.4% per year. Meanwhile, Statista confirms that mobile gaming revenue in VN will reach $712 million by 2029. Placing VN in the top 5 mobile game-producing countries, Bloomberg went on to boast 4.2 billion global downloads - twice the global average.

One cannot resist the influence of digital platforms, particularly TikTok, in the shaping of VN's gaming market. In the TikTok Marketing Science Global Gaming LiveOps Survey (2024), a whopping 59% of users professed to be on the hunt for new games via eye-catching content on the platform. The study also revealed that 64% of users posthaste engaged in game content linked to music, lifestyle, and entertainment themes.

TikTok's tools and integrations have kickstarted revolutionary changes in game promotion and discovery for both publishers and users in VN. Some game titles clocked installations zooming by over 313%, while others reached an impressive 58 times higher ROAS compared to industry averages. Furthermore, cost-per-install (CPI) for certain campaigns sunk between 35% and 72%. These mind-numbing figures speak volumes about the impact digital platforms have on the VN gaming market.

At the Gaming on TikTok Hà Nội Summit 2025, Maayan Kolter, Global Development Director of Gaming at TikTok, shared her enthusiasm: "Charming as a movie star, Vietnam is swiftly climbing the ladder as a world-class creative hub for gaming in Southeast Asia. Armed with a dedicated gaming community and government support, our VN game publishers are triumphing at home and conquering the globe."

Đỗ Việt Hùng, vice president of the Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF) and president of the VN Entertainment Electronic Sports Association (VIRESA), echoed Maayan's sentiments: "Vietnam's gaming industry is experiencing quantum leaps, both in terms of creative prowess and user connection. Tapping into cutting-edge digital platforms like TikTok is a strategic masterstroke that empowers VN publishers to stand toe-to-toe with the world's best."

The sector is expected to generate US$1.66 billion by the end of 2025, with a compound annual growth rate of 9.77 per cent in the following years. Photo nguoiquansat.vn
