Vienna Opera Ball 2025 dazzles with tradition, bold designs and star performances
The Vienna Opera Ball returns to the State Opera on February 12, blending tradition with bold new designs. This year's event will feature striking floral arrangements, a star-studded musical programme, and a live broadcast with a streamlined presenting team. Tickets remain in high demand, with prices ranging from €410 for standard entry to over €26,000 for premium box seats.
Around 5,000 guests are expected to attend, continuing the event's recovery after pandemic restrictions cut numbers to roughly 2,000–3,000 in 2021 and 2022. Attendance has since rebounded, averaging over 5,000 in the last two years.
The evening's opening programme will showcase works by Shostakovich, Verdi, and Bernstein. Soprano Pretty Yende and tenor Benjamin Bernheim will perform alongside the Vienna State Opera Orchestra, conducted by Pablo Heras-Casado. Later, the Vienna State Ballet will take the stage with the *Carousel Waltz*. Floral displays will dominate the decor, featuring deep red *Red Naomi Futura* roses and amaranth for an avant-garde look. Meanwhile, the Debutantes' and Gentlemen's Committee will wear Swarovski tiaras, each adorned with 350 crystals in a swan-inspired design. The ORF's live broadcast will be hosted by Mirjam Weichselbraun, Teresa Vogl, and Andi Knoll—down from previous years—while Silvia Schneider shifts to a role as fashion correspondent. An artwork by Arnulf Rainer will also go under the hammer, supporting the *Austria Helps Austria* initiative, which has raised €36 million since 2019. State Opera Director Bogdan Roščić, once a sceptic, has grown to appreciate the ball's unique atmosphere. He now approaches the event with a mix of enjoyment and strategic planning.
Each ticket includes a €35 solidarity contribution, part of the ball's long-standing charitable efforts. With its mix of high culture, glamour, and fundraising, the event remains one of Vienna's most prestigious social gatherings. Organisers have confirmed all preparations are on track for the February 12 date.
