Victory in Cracking Down on Tax Evasion
Financial Secretary Gisela Splett and Senior Financial President Bernd Kraft unveiled the 2024 tax administration balance on August 29, 2025, outlining a year of significant achievements and improvements.
In 2024, the tax administration collected over 96 billion euros, with income tax being the largest share. This represents a remarkable increase from the previous year. The automatic processing rate of income tax declarations also rose to almost 16 percent.
The tax investigators played a crucial role in this success, generating an additional revenue of 366 million euros in 2024. Senior Financial President Bernd Kraft praised the employees of the tax offices for their outstanding job, noting that their measures have significantly increased case clearance.
One of the notable initiatives mentioned in the presentation was 'Tax Makes School', although details about the project were not disclosed.
The Special Unit for Tax Oversight (SUTO), headed by Thomas Müller, achieved a record result of 38.8 million euros in 2024. The average processing time for income tax returns decreased to 50 days, down from 63 days in 2023, marking a substantial improvement in efficiency.
