Summary: Torrential rain caused flooding, landslides, and massive damage on Friday and Saturday night, leading to over 3,000 calls to the fire department in Saarland which was prompted to declare a state of emergency.

In Neunkirchen, rescue teams evacuated 146 hotel guests from the Holiday Inn Express Hotel and a nearby retirement home with 100 residents using boats during the night. Saarbrücken, the state capital, was also severely affected, requiring numerous rescue operations.

A new storm warning has been issued for Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate due to potential severe thunderstorms and downpours until evening.
