Veteran pitcher formerly of Millersville University now secured by the Philadelphia Phillies to bolster their relief squad during playoff pursuit
Tim Mayza Joins Philadelphia Phillies for Labor Day Debut
Tim Mayza, an eight-year veteran left-handed pitcher, is set to make his debut for the Philadelphia Phillies on Labor Day, September 2, 2025. This follows his impressive first outing for the team on the same day.
Mayza spent some time with the Pittsburgh Pirates before joining the Phillies. In his stint with the Pirates, he recorded a 2.89 ERA with eight strikeouts in 91⁄3 innings.
Mayza's journey to the Phillies began with his roots in Pennsburg and Millersville University. He has also played for the Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Yankees in the past.
Mayza has been out since April 18 due to a back injury but returned to action on Aug 19. He was scheduled to pitch for Triple-A Indianapolis on a minor league rehab assignment for the Pirates, but was claimed on waivers by the Phillies instead.
As a Phillies fan growing up in Denver, Mayza will now have the opportunity to be part of a contending team as a player. He is expected to join the Phillies in Milwaukee for Monday's game against the Brewers, where he will be placed on the active roster and assigned No. 54.
