Vehicle blaze on B236 highway: Firefighters from Bremen manage to prevent further damage
In the early hours of Tuesday, a vehicle fire incident occurred on the B236 towards Lünen. The Fire Department Dortmund was the initial responding party, with Fire Stations 6 (Scharnhorst) and 2 (Eving) dispatched, along with the rescue service, to the scene.
Upon arrival, a tow truck was found on fire, with the fire starting in the engine compartment and spreading rapidly. Despite attempts to flag down passing truck drivers for help, none of them stopped.
Around 20 firefighters were on the scene for approximately 90 minutes. The fire was brought under control early on, thanks to the quick intervention of the Bremen firefighters, who provided additional assistance. Three fire trucks from the Bremen Fire Department, who were nearby on an excursion visit, quickly joined the effort to fight the fire.
The Dortmund Fire Department used the Tank-Water-Foam roll container from Fire Station 2, which carries an additional 5000 liters of water, to further combat the fire. A significant traffic jam occurred during the operation.
Vehicles repeatedly blocked the rescue lane, making it difficult for the firefighters to access the burning tow truck. However, the occupants of the affected vehicle were able to exit safely.
The Dortmund Fire Department expresses sincere thanks to the Bremen Fire Department for their quick and professional response. This marks the second time in recent memory that the two departments have worked together. The last joint operation involved German firefighters from Dortmund and others cooperating with Spanish colleagues to save the village of La Baña from severe wildfires in Spain, which ended about a week before their emotional departure, as reported recently in 2025.
