The Oakland Athletics (A's) are moving forward with the construction of their permanent home, a 33,000-seat stadium on the Las Vegas Strip. The project, which was initially estimated to cost $1.5 billion, has seen a series of cost increases, now standing at an estimated $2 billion.

The construction, being managed by the Mortenson-McCarthy joint venture, the same team behind Allegiant Stadium, is currently in its vertical construction phase. Crews have moved beyond foundational preparation and are now pouring concrete and installing rebar across the southern and southeastern portions of the footprint.

The A's intend to have their permanent home ready in time for the 2028 season, a shift from the earlier stated 2025 schedule. However, the financing for building their permanent home in Las Vegas is still mostly unsecured.

In the meantime, owner John Fisher has opted to play full-time at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento until the new stadium is complete. The A's will host the Milwaukee Brewers from June 8-10, and the Colorado Rockies from June 12-14, before playing back-to-back series at Las Vegas Ballpark later in the 2025 season.

Las Vegas Ballpark, located in the northwestern suburb of Summerlin, was previously mentioned as a potential temporary venue. The stadium's construction site is nine acres of land left vacant after the Tropicana was imploded in 2024.

The decision to build their permanent home in Las Vegas marks a symbolic passing of the torch from the Rat Pack era of Las Vegas to a new chapter of sports-driven spectacle. The A's are taking this step as a symbolic gesture towards making their future home on the Las Vegas Strip.

It's important to note that the Major League Baseball has released the 2026 schedule, but no explicit information about the leadership of the construction work for the new Oakland Athletics stadium has been made available. The stadium's construction is still taking place, and the cost increase was not previously mentioned.

The Oakland A's are a professional baseball team, and their move to Las Vegas will mark a significant shift in the landscape of Major League Baseball. The A's minor-league farm team, the Las Vegas Aviators, currently call Las Vegas Ballpark home.

As the construction progresses, fans and baseball enthusiasts eagerly await the A's new permanent home on the Las Vegas Strip. The A's management remains committed to delivering a world-class stadium for the start of the 2028 season.
