Uzbekistan eyes Formula One future with landmark FIA delegation visit
Uzbekistan has welcomed a high-level delegation from the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) this week. Led by FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, the visit marks a push to deepen ties in motorsport and road safety across the country. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Ben Sulayem to explore ways of expanding cooperation. The talks covered plans for modern motorsport infrastructure in Uzbekistan, aiming to attract international competitions. Among the proposals was the possibility of hosting future Formula One events.
The discussions also focused on training and education through the FIA University. Local talent development was highlighted as a priority, alongside nationwide road-safety initiatives. Nearly 500 delegates from 149 countries are attending the week-long event, which includes the FIA Presidential Election and the annual FIA Awards ceremony. In recognition of his efforts, President Mirziyoyev presented Ben Sulayem with the Dustlik Order. The award honours his role in advancing motorsport and fostering collaboration between the FIA and Uzbekistan.
The meetings signal Uzbekistan's growing commitment to international motorsport and safety standards. With plans for new infrastructure and talent programmes, the country aims to strengthen its position in the global racing community. The FIA's support could pave the way for major events in the coming years.
