Volleyball: A Season of Learning and Growth
The Holy Cross Women's Volleyball Team faced a tough 2023 campaign, finishing with a record of 4-21. Despite the challenges, the team showcased resilience and determination throughout the season. Seniors Halle Carter and Sanaea Simmons, set to graduate, will leave a significant void on the team.
Volleyball Stars on the Rise
Two standout players, Katie Russell '26 and Abbie Lane '25, have caught the attention of national selectors. Their impressive performances during the season, coupled with their participation in the US Women's National Team Open Program in Colorado Springs, Colorado, have opened up opportunities for them to make the Women's Collegiate National Team and the Women's National Team.
Katie Russell '26, who ranked second in assists and tied for 4th in service aces on the team this past season, started seven games and had 20 or more assists in five games. Abbie Lane '25, on the other hand, boasts impressive statistics, with 234 kills, 169 digs, and 500 career kills and digs each.
Rowing: A Tradition of Excellence
The Holy Cross Rowing Team continued its tradition of excellence by participating in the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston. The event, one of the biggest rowing events in the world, provided the team with a valuable opportunity to compete against top-tier institutions.
Ice Hockey: A Star on the Rise
Liam McLinskey, a junior at Holy Cross, is making waves in the ice hockey world. He is currently a finalist for the prestigious Hobey Baker Memorial Award, given to the top player in college hockey.
A Historic Moment for Holy Cross
In a historic moment, Patrick Rissmiller '02, the first player in Holy Cross history to have his jersey retired, had his jersey retired by the Men's Ice Hockey team. The ceremony will take place before the team's game against the United States Air Force Academy on January 3, 2024.
As we look towards the fall, the Holy Cross Women's Volleyball team is eager to bounce back, while the Rowing Team and Men's Ice Hockey team continue to train and prepare for their upcoming seasons.
