US-based companies OroraTech and Opterrix unveil Fire Intelligence Feed, a new system that monitors wildfires using signals rather than actual smoke.

OroraTech, a German satellite startup, has announced a groundbreaking partnership with risk intelligence platform Opterrix. This collaboration aims to bring near real-time wildfire data into insurers' risk platforms, revolutionising the way the insurance industry approaches wildfire risk management.

The partnership between OroraTech and Opterrix will enable Opterrix users to view active wildfire threats near policyholders in real time. This development is set to transform reactive claims into proactive decisions for insurers facing billions in wildfire-related losses each year.

OroraTech's technology, which controls its own space-based sensors, seeks to overcome the challenges posed by fragmented, delayed third-party data. The startup's satellite constellations, designed to address the urgent and complex wildfire risk profile in the US due to hotter weather, land-use patterns, and drought conditions, will play a crucial role in this transformation.

The first proprietary satellite constellation of OroraTech, Pine Grove, is set to become fully operational, enabling real-time thermal imaging with improved frequency and precision. This enhanced visibility is made possible by OroraTech's thermal-infrared satellites and proprietary Fire Spread modeling.

OroraTech's satellites fuse orbital feeds with public datasets to build one of the most comprehensive wildfire monitoring systems. The company's goal is to make high-resolution, real-time thermal imaging as accessible and indispensable as GPS is today, powering smarter decisions across sectors.

The partnership marks OroraTech's first foray into the insurance industry. Thomas Gruebler, co-founder and chief executive of OroraTech USA, stated that the integration of Opterrix and OroraTech's technologies makes sense due to their respective focuses on risk visualization and wildfire risk determination.

The first pilot customer for this partnership is USAA. Opterrix is recognised as being on the cutting edge for visualising risk for insurers. This collaboration is expected to support more informed underwriting, faster claims response, and more accurate risk modeling for insurers.

OroraTech expanded its operations to Colorado in April, targeting the US as a critical growth market. Later this year, OroraTech plans to launch a second constellation of eight satellites to enhance global coverage and revisit rates. The monetary value of the agreement between OroraTech and Opterrix was not disclosed.

This partnership is a significant step forward in OroraTech's mission to be a foundational layer in the global climate resilience infrastructure within five years. With its advanced satellite technology and commitment to real-time, high-resolution data, OroraTech is poised to revolutionise wildfire management and protection efforts worldwide.
