New Drinking Water Mainline Construction in Kahlweg, Allendorf

A new drinking water mainline is being laid in the Kahlweg district of Allendorf, as part of the ongoing maintenance and expansion of the drinking water network in Giessen. The construction, originally scheduled to start in May 2025, has been delayed and is now set to begin on August 18, 2025.

The Stadtwerke Giessen (SWG) is responsible for the construction of the new mainline. The entity has been managing the drinking water infrastructure in Giessen and collaborating with the Middle Hesse Water Utilities on supplying drinking water in the city.

The construction work in Kahlweg will result in temporary closures of streets and partial unavailability of sidewalks. Parking spaces in the affected areas will not be available during construction, and residents can drive up to the construction site. A detour will be signposted for through traffic.

Ulli Boos, spokesperson for the SWG, stated that they are aware of the inconveniences caused by the construction work. The SWG aims to keep noise and other disturbances as low as possible during the construction.

The drinking water pipelines in Kahlweg run under both the sidewalk and roadway. The new mainline is expected to be completed by the end of September 2025, with the SWG striving to finish the construction work within the planned time frame.
