Upgraded play areas: contemporary, accepting, and varied facilities designed for children's enjoyment
Four Playgrounds in Gütersloh Undergo Redesign
Four playgrounds in the city of Gütersloh have been redesigned, providing children and parents with updated and inclusive spaces to enjoy. The playgrounds at Birkhuhnweg, Kuckucksweg, Anna-Voß-Straße, and Münstermannsweg have all received significant upgrades, enhancing the play experience for children of all ages.
The Birkhuhnweg playground, located at the end of a cul-de-sac in Avenwedde-Bahnhof, has been redesigned with new paths, a wheelchair-accessible playhouse, and other inclusive elements. The playground also offers an appealing U3 option, with a terrain vehicle featuring a gas station and other engaging elements.
At the Kuckucksweg playground, visitors will find a seven-meter-high "DNA-Tower", a zip line, a multi-trampoline, and an inclusive sand play area with wheelchair access. The playground combines modern equipment with natural wooden elements, creating a unique and engaging play experience. Highlights at Kuckucksweg include a Tampenschwinger, a large sand play area, standing seesaw, spring rocker, balancing trail, and a central play area with speaking tubes and a climbing path.
The newly built Münstermannsweg playground offers a diverse play area for children aged 3 to 12, with features such as a large sand play area, a central play area with speaking tubes and a climbing path, and a variety of inclusive elements. Seating areas and a picnic group have been added for parents and accompanying persons.
The Anna-Voß-Straße playground has undergone smaller measures, such as the exchange of play equipment and changes to improve accessibility. The multi-swing has been renewed, and a newly planted fence installation is intended to prevent dogs from entering the playground.
In addition to these updates, the Kuckucksweg playground in Friedrichsdorf has been open since the end of 2024. The cities of Menden, Arnstadt, Edermünde, and Erkelenz have also recently completed redesigns of their playgrounds. In Menden, several playgrounds received new equipment or renovations, including the Hönnetalstraße, Tannenbergstraße, Von-Lilien-Straße, Am Haunsberg, Hedwig-Dransfeld-Straße, Danzigstraße, and Magdalenenstraße playgrounds. Arnstadt opened a new natural playground at Alteburg in May 2025, while Edermünde officially opened a new toddler area in the Haldorfer playground in June 2025. Erkelenz opened a new Pumptrack playground at Adam-Stegerwald-Hof in September 2025.
The redesigns at the playgrounds in Gütersloh aim to provide children with engaging and inclusive spaces to play, fostering a sense of community and promoting physical activity. The updates are expected to be completed by September 2025.
