New-Generation Volkswagen T-Roc Leaks Online: Plug-In Hybrid and High-Performance R Models on the Horizon

The cat is out of the bag! The new-generation Volkswagen T-Roc small SUV has leaked online ahead of its official reveal on August 27. Screenshots of a deleted YouTube video showcase the car's exterior and interior design, giving us a sneak peek at what's to come.

The new T-Roc boasts a sporty-looking front end with an aggressive grille setup and LED headlights connected by an LED strip light. Around the side, the new T-Roc has a more swoopy, almost coupe-like rear end than its predecessor. The tailgate design resembles the current Tiguan, as well as the electric ID.4 and ID.5.

Inside, the new T-Roc offers a modern and tech-savvy cabin. The interior features a free-standing digital instrument cluster, a large touchscreen multimedia display, and touch-sensitive sliders for the volume and dual-zone climate control. The steering wheel comes equipped with physical buttons for added convenience. The gear selector has been moved behind the steering wheel, allowing for the center console storage to be maximized.

While no details have been provided regarding the powertrain line-up for the new T-Roc, it is expected that there will be various engine configurations available. One such expected engine configuration is a 110kW 1.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder. Additionally, a 150kW tune of a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol with all-wheel drive is also expected.

In intriguing news, a plug-in hybrid version is likely for the new T-Roc, as well as a high-performance R version in due course. The new-generation plug-in hybrid drive of the T-Roc was developed by Volkswagen as part of a newly developed full hybrid system combining a four-cylinder gasoline engine with an electric motor, introduced first in the T-Roc model. The leaked images reveal an 'eTSI' badge on the rear, suggesting it has a mild-hybrid set-up.

The new T-Roc shares a family resemblance to the new Tiguan, which launched in new, third-generation guise earlier this year in New Zealand. For now, we'll have to wait until August 27 for the full reveal, or if new information leaks online. Until then, let's speculate about the exciting features and performance capabilities that the new T-Roc has in store for us!
