Liepaja, Latvia - The UPDATE Festival is set to return this year, promising a weekend filled with art, science, and culture. Organised by the association of Liepaja media artists ASTE and RTU Liepaja Academy Art Research Laboratory, in collaboration with the Liepāja 2027 Foundation, the festival promises an engaging and innovative programme for all.

The festival programme includes workshops for registered participants, public events, masterclasses, family-friendly workshops, a science symposium, exhibitions, and performances by sound artists and musicians. Some parts of the festival programme will be in English, reflecting the festival's international cooperation.

Two artists, Carlos Munnoz from Spain and Iryna Loskot from Ukraine, will participate in the artist residency this September. Carlos Munnoz will share his experience of working with artificial intelligence during the festival's workshops. Iryna Loskot will present a performance exploring the sense of belonging and ecology at The Printing House Creative Quarter on September 28.

The festival is free of charge for all activities, and registration is required for workshop participation, but other festival activities are open to the public without pre-registration. The Liepāja 2027 Foundation is hosting an artist residency in Liepāja in September, particularly focused on performance artists selected through an open call. These artists work alongside local creators during the UPDATE Festival to produce innovative, interdisciplinary cultural projects that emphasize audience engagement, cross-border collaboration, and the environmental impact of artistic production.

The residency primarily involves younger professional artists from cities in a European project network, including Liepāja. The new artworks created during the residency will be exhibited as part of the UPDATE festival exhibition in November.

The festival's highlight, the Afternoon for Art and Science event, will take place on September 28. For more information and registration, visit the festival's website at www.updatefestival.lv. Get ready to immerse yourself in a weekend of art, science, and culture at the UPDATE Festival!
