Upcoming Microsoft Device: Latest Insights on the Next Generation Surface Pro Running Windows 11

The tech world is abuzz with excitement as Microsoft prepares to unveil its latest addition to the Surface Pro family – the Surface Pro 12. Here's what we know so far about the upcoming tablet, based on recent reports.

Microsoft has announced that it will exclusively ship new Surface hardware powered by Copilot+ capable processors. The Surface Pro 12 is expected to be at the forefront of this change, potentially running on Qualcomm's new Snapdragon X2 SoC. This shift towards more powerful processors could significantly enhance the device's performance.

The Surface Pro 12 is expected to sport an all-new design, similar to the 12-inch Surface Pro, with uniform bezels and built-in pen charging. It will continue to feature Windows Hello face unlock, an upgradable SSD, and a built-in kickstand, making it a familiar yet refreshed device.

In terms of release, the Surface Pro 12 is expected to hit the market in the fall, following Microsoft's historical pattern. However, a potential delay in the shipment of Qualcomm's next gen chips could push the release date to spring next year.

The Surface Pro 12 is expected to offer both LCD and OLED display options with a 120Hz refresh rate, promising a smoother and more responsive user experience. While the screen size is expected to remain around 13-inches, the Snapdragon X2 SoC is expected to focus on better GPU performance and multi-core performance, potentially positioning the Surface Pro 12 as a competitor to the 13-inch iPad Pro.

The Surface Pro 12's price is likely to match the Surface Pro 11's current pricing, starting at $1,199 for the tablet only. However, due to the upgraded hardware, the Surface Pro 12 is expected to have a higher price tag than its predecessor.

Interestingly, there is a possibility of an Intel variant of the Surface Pro 12, as was the case with the Surface Pro 11. The Surface Pro keyboard and pen will continue to be optional accessories, allowing users to customise their device according to their needs.

Qualcomm's new Snapdragon X2 SoC, developed specifically for the Surface Pro 12, is expected to be released in 2025 alongside the launch of the Surface Pro 12 tablet. This SoC is said to enhance performance and integrate advanced AI and 5G capabilities, making the Surface Pro 12 a potential powerhouse in the world of tablets.

The release of the Surface Pro 12 depends on whether Qualcomm is ready to ship its next gen chips. If all goes according to plan, we can expect the Surface Pro 12 to be a significant addition to Microsoft's Surface lineup, offering improved performance, a refreshed design, and the latest in display technology. Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to the anticipated release date, which could be in the October timeframe.
