Unveiling Paths to a Joyful Existence
Gütersloh Welcomes 21 New Recruits to its Childcare Services
On 25th August 2025, the city of Gütersloh welcomed 21 new recruits to its childcare services. The event marked a significant addition to the largest department in the city, which currently cares for over 3,500 children in its 22 facilities.
The new recruits are joining a strong team that carries a great deal of responsibility every day. According to Henning Matthes, Deputy Mayor for Family, Youth, School, Social Services, and Sports, the city's kindergartens focus on early education. This emphasis on quality is evident in the practice-integrated training (PiA) program, which allows trainees to work practically with children, parents, and colleagues from the start.
The PiA program offers numerous opportunities for personal and professional growth in the childcare field. Trainees have the chance to bring their own ideas into their work, such as through their own projects in the learning workshops. The city of Gütersloh emphasizes personal support for all new recruits in their training, with practice mentors providing intensive support and guidance.
The official welcome event for the new childcare recruits included a varied program about city administration. Andrea Körber, deputy head of the child daycare department, addressed the new colleagues, welcoming them and wishing them joy in their training. She also expressed hope that they would stay with the city even after their training or internship.
The program for the two-day introduction included discussions about the employee app, external offices, job ticket costs, appraisal talks, team-building games, and a communal lunch. Irina Bollweg from the personnel and organization department and her colleague Viola Sombray organized the event.
The new recruits are starting different programs: ten are beginning a practice-integrated training to become educators, six are starting their recognition internship, and five are starting the practice-integrated training to become childcare workers. The city of Gütersloh encourages those interested in joining its childcare services to visit the official website "Your Way to the Kita!" for more information.
