NVIDIA's RTX Remix modding platform, designed to reimagine the graphics of classic PC games with cutting-edge path tracing, has seen a flurry of activity in recent months. The platform, in collaboration with ModDB, held a contest offering $50,000 in cash prizes, and the winners have now been announced.

The most significant wins of the night went to Merry Pencil Studios and their Painkiller RTX Remix mod. Not only did they take home the Best Overall RTX Remix Mod prize, worth $20,000, but they also won the Most Complete RTX Mod and the Best Use of RTX in a Mod categories, each with a cash prize of $10,000.

In the Painkiller RTX Remix, player characters are enhanced with photo-scanned real World War 2 combat clothing and artifacts, and the scenery has been replaced and upgraded, adding additional geometric detail and period-accurate furniture. The mod also boasts a full day-night cycle with dynamic lighting.

The Community Choice RTX Mod prize was awarded to Call of Duty 2 RTX Remix of Carentan, by tadpole3159. This mod aims to completely remaster the multiplayer mode, beginning with its classic Carentan map. Over 2 million downloads have been recorded for these RTX Remix mods.

I-Ninja Remixed, by g.i.george333, was the runner-up for the Community Choice RTX Mod prize. This mod updates over 2,000 textures with PBR materials and adds new lighting throughout the game. It also received the runner-up prize for the Best Use of RTX in a Mod, worth $5,000.

The RTX Remix modding community has grown significantly, with over 237 active projects and over 100 RTX Remix mods released. A total of 24 mods were submitted for consideration in the contest.

In September, modders will be able to create brand new particles in RTX Remix that match the look of those found in modern titles. These mods span a catalog of beloved games like Half-Life 2, Need for Speed Underground, Portal 2, Deus Ex, and more.

The Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines - RTX Remaster by Safemilk took the runner-up prize for the Best Use of RTX in a Mod. This mod has been praised for its textures and surfaces, remade with additional geometric detail, physically-based materials, and Parallax Occlusion Mapping.

The RTX Remix modding platform continues to push the boundaries of what is possible with classic PC games, offering a new generation of gamers a chance to experience their favourite titles in a whole new light.
