China Unveils New Drone Boat in Military Parade Preparations
China is gearing up for a massive military parade to celebrate Victory Day, marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. During the preparations, a new unmanned surface vessel has been showcased by the Chinese Navy, adding to the country's growing autonomous maritime capabilities.
The drone boat, previously unseen, is believed to stretch more than 15 meters (49 feet) in length and has entered active service, as indicated by its appearance in the official military parade. This vessel, developed by Chinese military research institutions, boasts several stealth-oriented features, including sharply angled surfaces, a faceted hull, and a superstructure designed to minimize radar visibility.
The drone boat has concealed antennas and radar, designed to reduce infrared, visual, and acoustic signatures, making it a formidable asset for surveillance, patrol, and potentially combat roles. The vessel also has cockpit windows, suggesting it could be operated by a crew in addition to autonomous functions.
Interestingly, the drone boat is significantly smaller than the "Killer Whale" drone boat unveiled at the Zhuhai Airshow last year. Despite its size, it is painted in the Chinese navy's white-grey-blue camouflage and shows no visible hull number.
The appearance of this drone boat is a testament to China's continued investment in autonomous maritime technology. It is expected that the drone boat will play a significant role in the upcoming military parade, further demonstrating China's military prowess.
The third major rehearsal for the military parade ran from 5 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday in Tiananmen Square. The Chinese Navy is rehearsing meticulously to ensure a seamless and impressive display for the public.
