Unveiled design of iPhone 17 Pro's 5G antenna suspected in leak

The upcoming iPhone 17 Pro models are set to feature a redesigned 5G antenna, according to a post shared by noted leaker Majin Bu on platform X. This new design is reportedly intended to surround the rear camera notch, and an intriguing aspect of this redesign is the use of plastic antenna lines, which allow radio signals to be transmitted through the metal frame.

This innovative antenna design is expected to improve connectivity for 5G, LTE, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth on the iPhone 17 Pro. The reduction of antenna lines is due to a redesign of the antenna system, which could potentially lead to a sleeker and more streamlined look for the device.

However, the integration of this new antenna line could cause prices to be slightly higher due to potential tariffs on Chinese imports.

Intriguingly, the iPhone 17 Pro models are expected to have a reduced number of antenna lines, with the new line expected to be integrated around the main camera of the device. This design choice is reminiscent of the Apple Watch Ultra's antenna design, although Apple continues to rely on Qualcomm modems for 5G connectivity in these Pro models, rather than using its own 5G modem chip, which is currently only used in the iPhone 17 Air model.

The iPhone 17 series, including the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, will be unveiled at the September keynote. After the unveiling, the market launch of the four iPhone 17 models is expected to follow.

Meanwhile, it's worth noting that the iPhone 18 Pro series is set to use Apple's C2 modem, marking a shift from the Qualcomm modems used in the iPhone 17 Pro models.
