Unsanctioned Camp in Munich Sparks Daily Concerns Among Local Residents
In the heart of Munich, a contentious issue has been brewing since May. Residents and local authorities have been grappling with the issue of unauthorized night shelters at the intersection of Siegenburger and Rudesheimer streets.
Complaints have been pouring in from Guenter Keller, chairman of the local district council, and PI 41, the local police station. The police have reported several incidents per week due to this issue, and have spoken out in favour of clearing the camps.
People have been found sleeping in their cars or on the lawn in the bush area, with up to 17 vehicles with Romanian license plates counted. The police have been handing out notices of fines directly to the respective individuals, but due to the transient nature of these individuals, the fines often go unpaid.
The working group on wild camping, based at the Social Department, is responsible for making the final decision regarding the clearance of the camps. The group has been deliberating on the issue, but a decision is yet to be made. Kriminalhauptkommissar Thomas Lentner confirmed that the decision on the clearance of the camps is still pending.
The police station and KVR have established a new prioritized procedure for handling unauthorized night camping at Siegenburger and Rudesheimer streets. The KVR ensures accelerated processing in the fine office and sends the fines back to the reporting police station.
Residents have expressed concerns about the late-night noise and disturbances caused by the campers. Reports of people talking loudly among themselves until late at night and playing football in the street area have been common. However, a resident recently reported that it has been quieter in recent days, which they attribute to the rainy weather.
Complaints for unauthorized use have been filed by PI 41 and submitted to the relevant authority. The search results do not provide information on the group deciding on the treatment of unauthorized night shelters at Siegenburger Straße and Rüdesheimer Straße in Munich.
As the issue continues to unfold, the community waits with bated breath for a resolution. The working group on wild camping is expected to make a decision soon, bringing much-needed clarity to this long-standing issue.
