Unopened 2016 Pokémon boxes sell for a fortune on German TV show

A rare find on a German TV show left everyone stunned when two unopened Pokémon card boxes turned out to be worth a fortune. Monty Schön, a Pokémon fan, brought the exclusive 2016 Japanese promo boxes to Bares für Rares—and their value far exceeded expectations. Monty had bought the boxes in Japan for just €60 and kept them sealed. The sets, featuring Pikachu in Mario and Luigi-themed designs, were only sold in Japan in 2016. Their rarity and unopened state made them highly sought after. The sale highlights the booming market for rare Pokémon collectibles. Monty’s two boxes, kept pristine for years, sold for far beyond their original cost. The deal also underscores how unopened, limited-edition items can become unexpectedly valuable over time.
